Church Planters

First Steps to Becoming a Church Planter

The following steps are building blocks towards becoming a church planter. Each step must be completed before moving on to the next one.
  1. Seek confirmation from God in a tangible way that you have been called to become a church planter. You should be able to point to that event of confirmation, as well as point to God’s confirmation through “yes” answers to the following questions: Is your spouse receiving the same call? Is this the time to begin the process?

  2. Know your location. Where has God called you to plant a church?

  3. Share your vision. Identify people you believe will come along side you and help you develop a launch team. Ask God to reveal to you who these people are. They will be quality Christian leaders who want to serve in a highly effective church. They will be excited about your vision and be responsive to you as a leader.

  4. Establish the specifics. Name the church and identify the location.

  5. Formally and legally incorporate the church. Take steps to do this. People should be able to give to the church and not to you personally.

  6. Begin fundraising efforts. Start with those who have already expressed their support for the church, then expand those circles of support to include anyone you think may share your vision.
