Landmines in Church Planting

  1. No follow up

  2. Developing a board too soon (shouldn’t happen for 3 years)

  3. No marketing plan

  4. Too many strategies (stick to one, Rick Warren’s genius)

  5. Trusting the wrong people

  6. Declaring your non-negotiables

  7. Not having a covering (mother church, CMA, etc.)

  8. Lack of a strong Core team

  9. The Core team is not asked to tithe for 3 months before the start

  10. Poor music, drama, and arts

  11. Lack of good sound equipment

  12. Lack of preparation in preaching messages on felt-needs

  13. Too long of a private stage

  14. Lack of finances

  15. Starting too many ministries

  16. Thinking that small groups can grow your church

  17. Not championing the front end of the Great Commission

  18. Not closing the back doors (the back end of the Great Commission)

  19. Poor location, Insufficient facility

  20. No Coach.

  21. No ongoing plan after the opening

  22. No core values, no vision statement

  23. Lack of volunteer staff

  24. Downplaying the “Sunday Morning” experience

  25. Listening to too many voices…We need discipleship, we need a singles ministry, we need a women’s ministry, we need youth ministry, we need we need we need...

  26. Lack of excellence in Worship, Children’s and Youth Ministries

  27. After opening marketing, no ongoing plan for outreach (At least 12 Sundays for outreach, strategize Friend Days, Key Sundays!)

  28. Lack of professional staff building plan and vision

  29. Lack of local missions and outreach that captures the heart of the church

  30. LACK OF PRAYER, A PRAYER TEAM, and PRAYER-PARTNERS
